The Rainbow and Molesworth Hanmer hub tour organised by Saab Clasics Downunder will be in mid February. The plan is for the southern contingent to assemble in Hanmer on the evening of Thursday the 14th or first thing on Friday 15th. Please make your own accommodation arrangements for Hanmer.
Day One (Friday, 15th Feb): Rainbow run
Proceedings will start at Hanmer at 9am. Start point to be confirmed.
The run will take us up to Murchison via Maruia Saddle where a light lunch is being put on by CMSNZ member, Beulah Taplin. Northern participants will meet us at this point.
From here we will use the Braeburn Track through to Lake Rotorua, then across to the Rainbow Road and on to Hanmer.
Day Two (Saturday, 16th February): Hanmer area - own time or Leader Road run
You get to choose what to do today:
- join us on the proposed run around the Leader loop and back to Hanmer
- do the tourist thing e.g. jet boating, mountain biking, bungy jumping, hot pools etc
Day Three (Sunday, 17th February): Molesworth run
Today we drive the Molesworth. The Northern contingent will leave us here to make their own way home, while the rest of head south back to Christchurch in our own time.
Photo was taken on the Classic Marathon 2006 when we drove the Molesworth.
Accommodation
This is your responsibility. The Top Ten Holiday Park has been fully booked by a corporate but the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp have a number of cabins available (ph 03 315 7202).
Entry Fee
$10 per car to cover some basic expenses. Beula Taplin is putting on lunch on Friday at her own cost (we really need to know if you're coming!!) but we could contribute to that as well. Beula is happy if we make a suitable donation to charity.
There is likely to be a charge to use the Rainbow but we can't confirm that yet.
Entering
This run is a bit like our Sunday monthly day runs we have where you just turn up on the day. In this instance though, we'd like you to email Graeme S by the end of January to confirm if you're going with us. We'll send out an email confirming the start point and meal arrangements etc. by the end of the first week in February.
Vehicles
You don't need to have a Saab. We do have a couple of 4WDs coming with us just in case tows are needed.
One of the Saab Clasics Downunder's vehicle on the Alpine Classic 2011. We're not expecting snow on this event!
Safety
It is your responsibility to ensure that your vehicle is registered, warranted and has at least third party insurance. Road rules are to be obeyed and we expect that, as usual, you will drive to the conditions.
See you in Hanmer
