Once again the Rotary Club of Avonhead is organizing the Paul Kelly Motor Company Twin Rivers Classic Car Parade and Display, which this year will be held on Sunday 3rd March, starting from the A & P Showground in Curletts Road. Gates will open at 10.30am, giving the opportunity for the public to inspect the fantastic variety of vehicles taking part, before they leave for the parade itself, at 1.30pm.
The parade will still have to follow a shorter route than has been in the past because of road conditions. Car owners and enthusiasts are warmly invited to take part in both the display and parade, which is being strongly supported by The Paul Kelly Motor Company, along with Newstalk ZB, Classic Hits 97.7 FM, and the Christchurch City Council.
Who Can Enter
All classic, vintage, veteran, sports cars, motorbikes and everything else are invited. Car Clubs are welcome to display and parade as a group. All interesting or unusual vehicles welcome !!!!!
The parade will return to the A & P Showground approximately an hour after leaving, for prize giving at 2.30pm – 3.00pm.
Prizes!
Prizes of one year’s subscription to ‘Classic Driver’ magazine will be awarded for:
- Best American
- Best Australian
- Best British
- Best European
-
Best Japanese
Judging will start at 11.30am and prizes awarded early afternoon after the return to the showground.
Where do the funds go?
Last year $10,000 was raised for The Child Cancer Foundation to provide amenities in the new Child Cancer house being constructed in Cashel Street, to replace the previous building which was damaged in the earthquakes.
This is a day for young and old to enjoy a spectacular event with a picnic atmosphere, including live music, food stalls and entertainment, making it a great day out for the whole family.
As well as being a great day for all concerned, it is a Charity Event. From past parades the Rotary Club of Avonhead has successfully raised funds for The Horizon Day option trust (funds raised for a van, over 2 years), The Dyslexia Foundation, The Fred Hollows Foundation, and The Christchurch Charity Hospital Trust. This year’s funds are once again for The Child Cancer Foundation who will use the money to complete special amenities in the new Child Cancer House, 20 Cashel Street, Christchurch.
Entry Fees
The entry charge of $15 per display/parade vehicle entry and $10 fee for each spectator vehicle (unchanged from previous years).
This is the 5th time that the A & P Showground has been used, as it is a large venue, giving ample space for the parade cars to be displayed, as well as unlimited parking for the viewing public.
Sponsors
The Rotary Club of Avonhead acknowledges the generosity of:
- Paul Kelly Motor Company
- Christchurch City Council
- Classic Driver for donating prizes.
Organisers
The event has been run for the last 9 years by the Rotary Club of Avonhead, and club members devote many hours of their time to plan all aspects of the parade, as well as acting as marshals etc, on the day. For further information about the event, please see the contact details below.
In case of bad weather
In the event of having to cancel because of bad weather conditions, provision has been made to reschedule the parade for Sunday 10th March. For cancellation notices, please listen to Newstalk ZB on Sunday morning.
